Everything We Used to Do I’ll Do Again Alone

By Amanda Valentine ‘22

You’re the second verse of my favorite song,

So each time it plays I sing along,

You’re the passenger in the corner of my eye,

So I reroute and take the longer drive,

You’re the bright orange glow of Mars,

So I breathe in the whole sky of stars.

I think if I brace myself and face it,

I can save myself the replacements,

Reclaim these things you’d taken,

Put myself in your old spaces.

Everything we used to do I’ll do again alone,

I’ll take all our things back as my own –

and if I keep the water running through,

I’ll rid my hands the spot of you.
